"A scout is reverent."
As part of a comprehensive program of youth ministry, the Church offers a variety of religious experiences to young people in scouting!
Coordinated on the diocesan level by the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, scouts of Catholic-faith in the Oakland Diocese have the opportunity to:
- Earn Scout Religious Awards by completing activities centered on their faith.
- Attend an Annual Retreat with other scouts.
- Attend the diocesan-wide "Celebration of Scouting" at the Cathedral of Christ the Light.
- Camp with their scout group at a campsite at the Diocesan Youth Retreat Center
Scouts may have the opportunity in their local parishes to attend "Scout Sunday" celebrations, perform service projects, or participate in a variety of scout group sponsored events.
To explore these activities, see "What’s New" on this page and check out the links to other pages on this website!
The Catholic Committee on Scouting
The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, in cooperation with the local scout councils, facilitates programs for scouts of Catholic faith. The Committee is under the support of the Diocesan Department of CYO and Catholic Scouts, and is under the guidance of the Diocesan Scout Chaplain, Father Kenneth Nobrega. There are representatives on the committee from both girl scout and boy scout organizations.
The committee meets 5 times during the school year. Interested adults are invited to attend.
