Oakland Diocese  to Host Catholic Scout Programs in 2015 - 2016

Including – Religious Awards for Scouts, Retreats and a "Celebration of Scouting at the Cathedral!

The Oakland Diocese Catholic Committee on Scouting will be hosting a variety of activities for scouts of Catholic faith during the 2015-2016 school year.  Scouts can earn Religious Awards based on their age group and can attend Scout Reteats.  All scouts, leaders and families are invited to the Cathedral of Christ the Light for the annual Celebration of Scouting. Also, scout units are invited to camp, have day activities or courts of honor at the scout campsite of the Diocesan Youth Retreat Center. See the pages of this website for more information and

As part of a comprehensive program of youth ministry, the Church offers a variety of religious experiences to young people in scouting!

Coordinated on the diocesan level by the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, scouts of Catholic-faith in the Oakland Diocese have the opportunity to:

Scouts may have the opportunity in their local parishes to attend "Scout Sunday" celebrations, perform service projects, or participate in a variety of scout group sponsored events.

The Catholic Committee on Scouting

The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, in cooperation with the local scout councils, facilitates programs for scouts of Catholic faith. The Committee is under the support of the Diocesan Department of CYO and Catholic Scouts, and is under the guidance of the Diocesan Scout Chaplain, Father Kenneth Nobrega. There are representatives on the committee from both girl scout and boy scout organizations.

The committee meets 5 times during the school year. Interested adults are invited to attend.

NEW! Gathering of the 12 Tribes Day Retreat in November!

The popular "Gathring of the 12 Tribes," a day retreat for young scouts will in on Saturday, November 7 at St. Bonaventure Church.  A day filled with faith and fun!  Sign up early and don't miss it!

The "Pillars of Faith" Award

The diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting has announced a new award – the "Pillars of Faith" Award for Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts who have, over their time in scouts, earned each of the religious awards.  The award will be presented each year at the annual diocesan Celebration of Scouting.  Click here for more information and an award application.
