History of
Council
The revised council began in 1998. The council reflects the makeup
of the Diocese of Oakland with twelve lay people, four priests, a deacon and a religious
sister and three ex-officio members. The purpose of the council is to advise the bishop on
pastoral matters and develop long range plans for the pastoral life of the diocese.
DPC Mission
The Mission of the Diocesan Pastoral Council is
- to ground ourslves in the mission of Jesus
- to listen to the many voices of the diocese
- to recommend priorities and goals for pastoral life
- to discuss issues the bishop brings before the Council
- to form community through prayer and shared refelction
Current Issues
Presently, the Council is working on four issues:
- Developing Pastoral Leadership and Vocations
- Renewing our Commitment to Children, Youth, and Young Adults
- Sharing the Resources of the Diocese
- Respecting and Celebrating our Cultural Diversity
The Council has just completed the new five-year plan for the
Diocese called: Our
Call to Holiness
