Mission Statement
In concert with and in support of the shepherding ministry of our Bishop, the African
American Catholic Pastoral Center is established and commissioned "to enrich the
Catholic Church" within the Diocese of Oakland "with the precious and unique
gift of Blackness which the Church needs--especially at this moment in her history".

Services
In collaboration with other appropriate Diocesan departments, Deaneries, and Chancery
Personnel, the African American Catholic Pastoral Center Provides Black Catholic
leadership, planning, resources, and models of:
- African American Youth Ministry Leadership Development, and Program Support
- Africentric Liturgical Consultation
- In-Service and Support Homiletical Services and Retreats
- Adult Religious Education and Enrichment featuring Black Theology, Black Catholic
History and Spirituality
- African American Family Enrichment Programs
Goals
- To empower African American Catholic Leaders in the practice of Evangelization and
Pastoral Ministry.
- To foster and support Pastoral Leaders who will address and respond to issues and
concerns of African American Catholic Youth.
- To facilitate leadership and faith formation of African American Catholics and other
Pastoral Ministers by developing knowledge of and competency in African American
Spirituality, and Culture.
- To develop strategies and new approaches for culturally sensitive Family Ministry with
African American Catholics and the broader African American Community.
