Rite of Election 2015

Dear RCIA Coordinator,

It is time again to register for the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland.  Registration is to be completed by all parishes that plan to participate. Registrations will only be accepted through an on-line registration form here.  This form is due by January 16, 2015. Information regarding the Rite of Election will be sent to you approximately two weeks before the Rite of Election.

The Rite of Sending is the parish celebration that takes place prior to the Rite of Election. The distinction between catechumens and candidates is to be clearly established and expressed during the Rite of Sending (see RCIA ##530-535).

Please note that there are three opportunities to participate in the Rite of Election, including one that we be celebrated in Spanish on Saturday, February, 21 2015 at 2:00 P.M.

The Rite of Election will be celebrated in English on Sunday, February 22 at 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M.

PLEASE Note the Sunday, February 22nd at 4 PM is now full.

Who may attend the Rite of Election?

Those who will be receiving sacraments at the 2015 Easter Vigil

  • Catechumens, unbaptized adults
  • Adult candidates baptized in another denomination
  • Baptized, uncatechized adult Catholics
  • Unbaptized children ages 7-17

Who does not attend the Rite of Election?

  • Children who are already baptized
  • High school-aged confirmandi

It is important that you know about the following: Book of the Elect, who signs it, the need of a folder for the calling of the candidates, the flow of the Rite and what to expect.  Please contact me as soon as possible if you have questions.
