Annual Chrism Mass
- Annual Chrism Mass
- Apr 6, 6:30 PM (America/Los_Angeles / UTC-700)
- The Cathedral of Christ the Light, 2121 Harrison St., Oakland
All parishes and memebers of the Diocese are invited to come celebrate the annual Chrism Mass on Thursday, April 6 at 6:30 pm.
Join with us as the chief shepherd of our Diocese, Bishop Michael Barber, S.J., blesses the Oil of the Catechumens and the Oil of the Sick and consecrates the Sacred Chrism, all of which are taken back to the parishes for the celebration of the Sacraments. This year's celebration begins with the Musical Prelude at 6:30 pm.
Also, in a sign of unity and fidelity, the priests of the diocese concelebrate the Mass with their Bishop and recommit themselves to their priestly ministry.
This is the one time, each year, when the local church gathers as one family in faith to celebrate as one Church, called by Christ to know Christ and make Him better known!
For any questions regarding the parish representatives and the bringing of the oils for blessing, please contact Denise Kogler (firstname.lastname@example.org or 510-271-1935).
Parishes are requested to invite ONE parishioner to participate in the Mass by accompanying the oils that will be blessed during the liturgy. These representatives should be in addition to any clergy who are participating in the Liturgy..
Parishes should use the online form to submit the name, email address, and contact number of their parish oil bearer. Please submit this information no later than April 1.
Use of public transportation is encouraged; the Cathedral is a two-block walk from the 19th Street BART station. Click here for additional transportation information.
