Office for Life and Justice

Welcome. Our Office for Life and Justice supports social justice, respect life and restorative justice ministries in parishes, deaneries, schools, ethnic centers and other institutions, recognizing that our efforts in education, service, advocacy, and solidarity are an essential aspect of the Christian life.

California Bishops Support Life and Family Initiatives

The bishops of California have endorsed two state initiatives before they qualify for the ballot.

  • The Parental Notification Initiative (PNI) requires a doctor to notify parents 48 hours prior to an abortion being performed on their minor daughter.
  • The SAFE California Initiative (SAFE) will replace the use of the death penalty for a capital crime with life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Bishop Salvatore Cordileone is strongly encouraging every parish to participate in these to signature gathering campaigns.

Campaign materials have been sent to each parish.  Each pastor will determine how his parish will participate in the campaign.

For additional resources, parishes are asked to contact the campaigns directly (see below)
