Welcome. Our Office for Life and Justice supports social justice, respect life and restorative justice ministries in parishes, deaneries, schools, ethnic centers and other institutions, recognizing that our efforts in education, service, advocacy, and solidarity are an essential aspect of the Christian life.

California Bishops Support Life and Family Initiatives
The bishops of California have endorsed two state initiatives before they qualify for the ballot.
- The Parental Notification Initiative (PNI) requires a doctor to notify parents 48 hours prior to an abortion being performed on their minor daughter.
- The SAFE California Initiative (SAFE) will replace the use of the death penalty for a capital crime with life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Bishop Salvatore Cordileone is strongly encouraging every parish to participate in these to signature gathering campaigns.
Campaign materials have been sent to each parish. Each pastor will determine how his parish will participate in the campaign.

Bay Area Social Justice Forum: Saturday February 11th, 2012 at Holy Names University

Join other concerned people of faith from parishes and schools throughout the Bay Area for the Second Annual Bay Area Social Justice Forum Saturday February 11th 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. The conference is sponsored by the Holy Names University, Diocese of Oakland’s Office for Life and Justice, Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, JustFaith Oakland, Sisters of the Holy Family, Sisters of Saint Francis and Stop Slavery: Northern CA Coalition of Catholic Sisters.
Keynote speakers Fr. Daniel Groody, University of Notre Dame award winning author and film director and Jack Weinstein. Workshop topics include: Human trafficking, Immigration, Restorative Justice, Muslim-Christian Dialogue, Water Security, Death Penalty, Affordable Housing, Racism, and many more.
