School of Pastoral MinistryUpcoming EventsBelow you will find opportunities to complete continuing faith formation hours. They are considered advanced because they go beyond the basic level. Previous faith formation recommended but not required.They are: 1.) Certificate in Social Ministry (Catholic Social Teaching) For those considering Master Catechist Certification: If you have no previous faith formation and are interested in Master Catechist Certification, then it is highly recommended that you enroll in SPM. If you have some previous faith formation experience, then it is highly recommended that you register for either 3 or 4 above. If you are unsure of what to take, please contact me via email (not telephone call) at dpurificacion@oakdiocese.org and provide me with a brief list of your previous faith formation courses so that I can evaluate and make recommendations for your particular next steps. As always, completing the courses above only partially fulfill requirements for certification. The offerings are subject to sufficient enrollment, so it is important to please register by January 14. Very limited financial assistance available. Below you will find further details and dates. Certificate in Theology of the Body Registrations are now being accepted for a five-part, once a month, series of specialized workshops to understand the Church’s teaching concerning the beauty of human sexuality. The course will give a comprehensive overview of John Paul II’s Theology of the Body catechesis and prepare students to lead a study group in their own parish. Candidates for the advanced diocesan certificate meet on the Holy Names campus in Oakland, 9:30 -12:00pm and 1:00 -3:30pm on Saturdays, January 16, February 13, March 13, April 24 and May 8. Participants have an opportunity to provide an optional sample teaching presentation on June 12. Cost is $20 per class day or $95 for all five courses. Instructor, Ed Hopfner. Space is limited. School for Pastoral Ministry Continuing Faith Formation in Catechism Certificate in the Catechism of the Catholic Church Registrations are now being accepted for a once a month series of specialized workshops in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Candidates for the advanced diocesan certificate meet on the Holy Names campus in Oakland, 9:30am-12:00pm (for Prayer course) and 1:00-3:30pm (for Christian Mysteries course) on Saturdays, January 16, February 13, March 13, April, 24, and May 8. Participants have an opportunity to provide an optional sample teaching presentation on June 12. Cost is $55 per class day or $275 for all five courses, including the optional June 12 practicum. Instructors, Byzantine Catholic Fr. Anthony Hernandez and Edie Black, M.Div. Take one or all courses. Recommended for those involved in adult faith formation, preparing the Faithful for the sacraments, those involved with liturgy, and those interested in pursuing Master Catechist Certification.
