Special Event for Priests in Alameda County:

Dialogue on the Death Penalty:  Faith Leaders Discussing Capital Punishment   Please invite your pastor and associate pastors to a special clergy-only luncheon   May 31, 2007 from 10:30 am-2pm at the Oakland Marriott, 1001 Broadway.   Faith leaders of all religious traditions are gathering for this event to learn and discuss strategies for preaching, teaching, and action on this crucial issue.  It is free, and space is limited, so they need to RSVP by May 25.

Letters went to the Alameda county priests today so please alert your pastor to look for it and encourage him to attend.  There will be a similar event in Contra Costa County in the late summer for those clergy.

Joseph the Worker invites you to hear Camilo Mejia

sharing his soon to be released book,  THE ROAD FROM  AR RAMADI. 7pm, Friday, May 18  St . Joseph the Worker Church, 1640 Addison St. Berkeley.  Staff Sargent Camilo Mejia  spent six months in Iraq, returned to the U.S. for a two week furlough and did not return to duty. He filed for conscientious objector status but was charged with desertion and sentenced to one year in prison for refusing to return to fight in Iraq.  Admission free.  Info 499 0537
