From Tom

Tom HollcraftGreetings everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful summer. I spent the season meeting many of you in your parishes and getting a sense of how things are going for you in ministry. Thank you for welcoming me so warmly into the Oakland Diocese—I truly appreciate it.

As we move forward, several calendaring matters have come up, some of which have become pressing. The details will follow but the events in question are NCYC, WYD and Rallies. Please take a moment to look through some of the pages on this site to become familiar with what is available for our youth on a diocesan level.

In His Service,

Tom

About Youth and Young Adult Ministry

With you, dear young people, I will continue to maintain a dialogue, listening to your expectations in an attempt to help you meet ever more profoundly the living, ever young, Christ.

Pp. Benedict XVI, April 2005

Our Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Catholic Diocese of Oakland is totally faithful to all aspects of the church’s ministry to its young people. Our commitment and purpose is to offer direct and indirect assistance enabling parish communities, our Catholic Schools and other groups to respond to the specific needs of our youth. We endorse the Total Youth Ministry concept as defined in Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry from the United States Catholic Conference. Basic Goals of which are as follows:

  • To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
  • To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community.
  • To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
