CYO Girls' Basketball Playoffs End with Exciting Final Games

Playoffs for Girls' CYO Baskeketball concluded the CYO Sports season with close and exciting final games. Games were held from May 18 through May 21 at Moreau Catholic High School, St. Joachim, St. Leo and St. Theresa gyms. Forty teams pariticipated.

A Little "March 'Mad'ness" in CYO

Who needs TV for basketball excitement? At an EBPL girls' basketball game, you could come across the "School of the Madeleine" band (pictured above) encouraging their teams, perhaps even playing "Fight for California!" Thanks to the band for the inspiration!
Metro League Hosts Pre-Season Jamboree

As part of pre-season activities, Metro CYO league began with a Second Grade Jamboree for these young players. Eight teams participated, playing three times over two weekends. League President Janice Pontes said, "Watching these girls play their first CYO games is priceless. Nothing but SMILES! Everyone is happy - players, coaches, and parents. I wish every coach could experience the joy that was in the gym last weekend."

Outstanding Community Service by CYO Teams!
As part of Christian service, CYO teams are encouraged to plan projects to serve the needs of lhe community! Pictured are several examples: St. Felicitas CYO, San Leandro, food drive; Corpus Christi, Piedmont, 8th grade basketball serving a winter meal at St. Mary Center, and St. Anne, Union City 8th grade helping at Alexander Women's Shelter, San Jose. Metro CYO League hosted a volleyball tournament with a donation to Breast Cancer research! Thanks to all for "giving back" with teams who are also Chistian Communities!

The 50th Boys' CYO Basketball Playoffs for the Oakland Diocese concluded with exciting final games! Pictured above is from the final 8th grade "A" game between St. Martin De Porres, Oakland and Corpus Christi, Piedmont.

Salesian "Red and Black" Summer Basketball Camps
Salesian High School will host their popular "Red and Black" camps during the summer months. First up is a one day Girls' Basketball Skills Development Clinic on June 15 with Coach Steve Pezzola. In June and July, week long basketball camps will be hosted by Coach Bill Mellis. Great fun while learning skills!
