Welcome to the CYO Coaches' Workshops Page!
CYO Coaches' Certification ProgramAll CYO Coaches must be certified to coach prior to each sports season. This page contains certification requirements, safe environment requirements and current information on CYO Coaches' Certification Workshops. 2011–2012 CYO Coaches' CertificationCoaches' Certification Workshops will be held prior to the beginning of each sport season. Coaches attending a Coaches' Certification Workshop will be certified to coach in that sport for that school year. Attendance at a Workshop during that school year and prior to that sport season is mandatory for all coaches and assistant coaches. Coaches must attend the entire workshop to be certified. (If the coaches do not attend, that school/parish cannot field teams for that sport.) Announcements of dates, times, and locations of workshops will be available to the athletic directors prior to each sport season. Workshops include CYO philosophy, rules, and first aid. Safe Environment Training - It is required that each coach complete diocesan safe environment training. The trainings will NOT be included in the coaches' workshops. Instead, coaches need to complete the traning "on line" or at a live workshop at their parish. Details are included on each workshop flyer posted here. Coaches will not be certified to coach until the safe environment requirement has been completed. For the 2011-2012 CYO seasons, ALL NEW CYO coaches will be required to complete the Safe Environment Training (SET) after July 1, 2009. New coaches should bring their SET completion certificate to the workshop. Returning CYO Coaches (those certified in the 2010-2011 school year) do not need to recomplete SET. Certification cards are presented to coaches at the end of the workshop. All coaches should carry their certification cards with them to all the games and be prepared to present them when requested. Failure to present a card within 48 hours will result in a forfeit for the team. Any person in a dugout or on the bench (excluding team members and scorekeepers) must have a valid certification card. The certified coaches of the team must be high school age or older. To be selected, coaches must complete the screening process and be selected and approved to coach by their parish prior to certification. Coaches are screened following Coaches Workshops under the provisions of "Megan's Law." Coaches must sign and agree to follow the Diocesan Safe Environment Code of Expected Behavior.
Diocesan Safe Environment TrainingTo be certified as a CYO coach for the 2011-2012 seasons, ALL NEW coaches must compete a Diocesan Safe Environment Course (after July 1, 2009). When completed, print the Certificate of Completion and bring to a Coaches Certification Workshop) Coaches who were certified to coach in the 2010-2011 CYO sports season do not need to recomplete the Safe Environment course. Please bring the Safe Environemnt Certificate to the workshop or your 2010-2011 CYO Certification Card. Oakland Diocese Safe Environment Training Information "Shield the Vulnerable" On-Line Training
