prayer for peace - october 7, 2024
Today, we are asked by our Holy Father, Pope Francis, to join Catholics around the world in praying and fasting for peace. Today is the one-year anniversary of the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war. It is also the feast of the Holy Rosary. “In this dramatic hour of our history,” the Pope said, “while the winds of war and the fires of violence continue to devastate entire peoples and nations,” the Christian community is reminded of its call to "put itself at the service of humanity." Please consider joining Bishop Barber and others in praying for peace, perhaps praying the Rosary using the Sorrowful Mysteries.
World Mental Health Day is Oct. 10. Learn more about how the Catholic Church and Catholics are comforting the afflicted, including those impacted by mental health issues.
Join with "Together in Action" under the Walking with Moms in Need nationwide initiative to end abortion. Bishop Barber invites all to join our prayer communities in Concord, Walnut Creek and El Cerrito from Sept. 25 - Nov. 3, 2024 to stand united in prayer and supportive action to create a culture of life.
We pray that the Church continue to sustain in all ways a Synodal lifestyle, as a sign of co-responsibility, promoting the participation, the communion and the mission shared among priests, religious and lay people. Small group packet and additional info through the link.
The full Novena for Mental Health can be prayed from Oct. 10-18, beginning on World Mental Health Day and concluding on the feast of St. Luke, patron of health care.
High School youth are invited to share their faith, exchange views on worship and share ideas that can enhance their faith experience. Join the St. Columba Youth Group in the parish garden for an afternoon of lively conversation, good music, great food, and comedy. This event is a precursor to the Unity Gathering at St. Benedict's Church on November 2.
