 An Invitation to the
2019 Diocese of Oakland “Celebration of Scouting!"

The “Celebration” will be at the Cathedral of Christ the Light, 2121 Harrison Street, Oakland, on Saturday, January 26, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Featured will be a special prayer service honoring all scouts and their adult leaders, along with the presentation of religious awards.

All Scouts attending are invited to process into the Cathedral along with their unit flag or banner!


In addition to the prayer service, those who have completed religious awards will be presented their emblems by Father Jayson Landeza, diocesan Scout Chaplain. Families of the Scouts are invited and encouraged to attend.

We look forward to seeing you and your scouts at the Cathedral for the "Celebration of Scouting!"

As part of a comprehensive program of youth ministry, the Church offers a variety of religious experiences to young people in scouting!

Coordinated on the diocesan level by the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, scouts of Catholic-faith in the Oakland Diocese have the opportunity to:

Scouts may have the opportunity in their local parishes to attend "Scout Sunday" celebrations, perform service projects, or participate in a variety of scout group sponsored events.

The Catholic Committee on Scouting

The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, in cooperation with the local scout councils, facilitates programs for scouts of Catholic faith. The Committee is under the support of the Diocesan Department of CYO and Catholic Scouts, and is under the guidance of the Diocesan Scout Chaplain, Father Kenneth Nobrega. There are representatives on the committee from both girl scout and boy scout organizations.

The committee meets 5 times during the school year. Interested adults are invited to attend.

Board of Review for Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII Religious Awards

Scouts earning the Ad Altare Dei or Pope Pius XII Religious Awards are required to attend a Board of Review prior to receiving the award.

This year, there are two review dates:
Thursday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 19 at 10:00 a.m.  Both will be at the Oakand Diocese Chancery Offices, 2121 Harrison Street, Oakland. (Entrance on 21st St.)

Are you an Eagle Scout and have earned the Ad Altare Dei or Pope Pius XII Award?  You can apply for a scholarship from the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.  Click here for details!
