Each year, the Oakland Diocese and the CYO track sections recognize outstanding volunteers for their dedicated service to young people in CYO Track.  2017 Recognition Awards were presented to: Bill Schott (St. Mary Parish CYO field and track, Walnut Creek), Valerie Shiells (St. Patrick School, Rodeo); Eric Herbert (St. Joseph Parish, Pinole); Melissa Smith (All Saitns Parish, Hayward); Ray Mangrobang (St. Joseph Parish, Fremont);

In recognition of decades of dedicated service to CYO Track and to young people, one individual was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award: Joe Sullivan (St. Bonaventure Parish, Concord).  Two Catholic Schools were recognized with Lifetime Acievement Awards for significant contirbutions to CYO both on and off the track:  St. Lawrence O'Toole "Tigers" and St. Jerome "Lions."

These outstanding volunteers and schools are representative of the time and talent contributed by many to CYO Track and Field!

Once again, thank you to all athletes, dedicated coaches, tireless meet officials, and supportive parents for a fine CYO track and field season, finishing with a great diocesan meet to end our CYO season!

A special thank you to all the MEET OFFICIALS who volunteered for the benefit of our runners week after week, especially at the Diocesan Meet, to set up, officiate events, judge the finish line, write ribbons, compile results and do all that is required to run a successful CYO Track and Field program. A special thank you to those who were responsible for areas at the meet and all those who gave much time and effort to make the meet special for the young runners!

Thank you to our host facilities - Moreau Catholic High School and James Logan High School for their hospitality in providing fine facilities for our athletes to run.

Thank you to our Section Coordinators who "make it all happen": all season long: Tim Chavez, George Francis (Diablo Valley); Herb Yarbrough, Sister Mary Denise Bourdet, PVBM (Oakland/West Contra Costa); Melanie Jones, Muriel Irwin, Mark Worrell (Mission Valley).

Thanks especially to our athletes, the young people of our church, for their continued and constant inspiration to us all!  The collage above is of teams in the opening parade, being greeted by their families and showing great enthusiasm before we prayed together – recognizing God with us! Although we post these meet results and the competition is fun, the real winning is in the memories made, the friendships gained, the personal bests achieved.

See You in 2017 CYO Cross Country!
