2017 Girls' CYO Volleyball Playoffs


The 2017 Oakland Diocese Girls' CYO Volleyball Playoffs ended with close matches and great volleyball play! Twenty-four teams from aournd the diocese competed in this weekend playoff at St Elizabeth gym, St Leander gym and Stl Bede Parish Center in February.



2017 Jim Negri Tournament

 

Twenty-two 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams met on a Sunday afternoon for the  annual Jim Negri Tournament at Moreau Catholic High School, sponsored by the CYO Office.  The day began with a Mass, celebrated by Father Mike Lacey, for 100 players and their families. Volleyball play featured exciting rallies and great sportsmanship.  Two teams from Assumption, San Leandro (pictured above) were honored with the "RC Camp Sportmanship Award" voted by the tournament referees.

2016 Girls' CYO Volleyball Playoffs

 

The 2016 Girls' CYO Volleyball Playoffs featured close, exciting comebacks and many 3-set matches. School of the Madeleine 8th grade won the championship over a tenatious St. Anthony, Oakland, team. The 7th grade featured very skilled play as Holy Spirit won the crown over Assumption.  In the 6th grade, the youngest but impressively skilled teams played with Corpus Christi, Piedmont, winning over St. Leander. 2016 JIm Negri CYO Volleyball Tournament




Twenty-one teams from around the diocese competed in the annual Jim Negri Girls' CYO Volleyball Tournament at Moreau Catholic High School and sponsored by the Oakland Diocese CYO.  The day began with a special Mass for the teams and families, celebrated by Father John Fernandes and with music led by Lucy Soltau and band.  The tournament featured skilled and exciting play in the 8th and 7th grade divisions.  The highlight of the tournament was the presentation of the RC Camp Sportsmanship Awards, voted by the tournament referees.  This year's recipients were St. Anthony, Oakland in the 8th grade and St. Anne, Union City, in the 7th grade. 2015 Jim Negri Tournament Begins with Mass
and Features Great Volleyball Play!

 

Twenty-two Girls' CYO Volleyball teams from around the diocese gathered for to play in the annual "Jim Negri Tournament" on Sunday afternoon, January 18 at Moreau Catholic High School, Hayward. The day began with a special Mass with the teams. Hailey Cassaroti from St. John's, San Lorenzo, was presented with the "Marty Mart Scholarship" at the Mass. The highlight of the tournament was the awarding of the "RC Camp Sportsmanship Awards" voted by the referees.

Close Games and Great Play HIghlight 2014 CYO Volleyball Playoffs

An exciting weekend of CYO Volleyball Playoff action culminated in three final games of skilled play before packed crowds. St. Anne, Union City won their first volleyball championship in the 6th grade with the match going to three sets, the final set score 15-13! The team from Holy Spirit, Fremont repeated championships and won the 7th grade, The 8th grade champion, St. Leander, San Leandro,  "three-peated" winning the diocesan championship this year and in the 6th and 7th grades. Playoffs saw great volleyball play from all teams before excited families!

Exciting Play in the 2014 Jim Negri Girls' CYO Volleyball Tournament

7th and 8th grade CYO teams from around the diocese met at Moreau Catholic High School, Hayward on January 19th for the annual "Jim Negri Tournament." The day began with a special Mass with tournament action following.  The tournament was started almost 50 years ago by Jim Negri, a founder of girls' sports in our diocese. Pictured above and below are the opening Mass and the RC Camp Sportsmanship Award Winners - St Felicitas in the 8th Grade and St. Felicitas/St. Bede in the 7th Grade - For results, see the tournament listing on the right of this page.
