St. Frances De Sales

Dear brothers and sisters,

On Tuesday we received the wonderful news that Pope Francis has appointed Auxiliary Bishop Myron J. Cotta of the Diocese of Sacramento as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Stockton. We rejoice with the people of Stockton, our neighbors, in this good news. The installation will take place on March 15, 2018.

Bishop Cotta is a good friend of mine, a very kind and devout priest and bishop. I look forward to working with him in the upcoming years.

We are also grateful to Bishop Stephen E. Blaire, who served the Stockton Diocese so faithfully since 1999. Please join me in praying for him as he enjoys his well-deserved retirement.

With the assurance of my prayers and blessing, I am
Sincerely Yours in Christ,

The Most Reverend Michael C. Barber, SJ
Bishop of Oakland
