Lay Ecclesial Ministers Council Highlights


Bishop John Cummins establishes the Lay Ecclesial Ministers Council, the country’s first consultative body of LEMs within the diocesan structure.
First diocesan Lay Ecclesial Ministers Convocation is held: “Now is the Time” with Zeni Fox.

First joint meeting of all consultative bodies is held.
Hosts regional meetings on “Lay Ecclesial Ministry: The State of the Question.”

First cohort of Holy Names Masters in Pastoral Ministries Program begins (through efforts of the On-Going Formation Subcommittee).
Diocese adopts its first mandatory Salary Scale and Job Classification System for Parishes (through efforts of Job Descriptions/Personnel Policies Committee)
Council co-sponsors first ever “study day” for all parish pastoral ministers (priests, deacons, and lay ecclesial ministers): “Toward a Common Ecclesiology” with Richard Gaillardetz.
Council receives “Spirit of the Conference Award” at National Association for Lay Ministry’s 25th Annual Conference in Baltimore.
Second LEM Convocation: “Ministry Matters Most” with Bishop Gerald Kicanas.

Council’s Pastoral Associate Guidelines and continuing formation proposal are approved by the Presbyteral Council for inclusion in the diocesan Personnel Policies.
Council’s definition and job description for Pastoral Associate are accepted by Bishop John Cummins.
Third LEM Convocation, “Empowering Leadership for Our Future” with Sr. Amy Hoey.

Council’s proposal for LEM’s continuing formation is accepted by Bishop John Cummins.

Annual LEM blessing and dinner is initiated.
4th LEM Convocation “Why Lay Ecclesial Ministry?” with Fr. Michael Sweeney.

Co-sponsors combined formation day “Ministries: A Relational Approach” with Dr. Edward Hahnenberg.

Standardized LEM blessing and recognition process within parishes is formalized and supported by Bishop Vigneron.
5th Annual LEM Convocation: “Passionate… Committed… Serving God’s People,” keynote by Dr. Thomas Beaudoin.

Updated definition of LEM approved by Bishop Vigneron.
6th Annual LEM Convocation: “Affirmed… Challenged… Inspired” with Sr. Amy Hoey.

Co-sponsors Leadership Summit “Facing our Pastoral Future Together”.

Blessing of LEMs by Bishop Salvatore Cordileone.
7th Annual LEM Convocation: “Living Out Our Call to Holiness” with Fr. Tom Bonacci

8th Annual LEM Convocation: ”The Pause That Refreshes! Celebrating Sabbath/Celebrating Liturgy” with Sr. Maria Elena Martinez, OSF and Br. William Woeger, FSC and LEM blessing by Bishop Salvatore Cordileone
