Thea Bowman captured and kept our attention through her faithful witness and unwavering challenge for the Church to genuinely be the Body of Christ—a Church that is inclusive and liberative. Maurice J. Nutt, C.Ss.R. D.Min., a former student and biographer of Thea Bowman uses the Spirituals to introduce to some and to reintroduce to others Thea Bowman, FSPA, Ph.D., as an unapologetic Black vowed religious woman who employed incarnational, ecclesiological, and Black liberative theologies in her teaching, preaching, and singing to bring radical hope and healing within the Church and society.
