DIOCESAN MARRIAGE PREPARATION RETREAT
Four Steps to Follow for the Pre-Nuptial Process
1. Make an Appointment with the Priest
Contact your parish: Make an appointment with the priest, who will explain the requirements and begin the process.
2. Gather the Documents
Recent Baptism Certificate: This document cannot be more than six months old. To obtain it, simply contact the parish where you were baptized, and they will provide it to you.
Copies of First Communion and Confirmation Certificates: If you are missing any sacraments, consult your priest to explore the available options for obtaining them.
Consent in the case of a mixed marriage: If one of you is not Catholic, the non-Catholic must sign a document giving consent for their children to be raised in the Catholic faith.
3. Pre-Nuptial Inventory
Complete one of the pre-nuptial inventories (PREPARE ENRICH or FOCCUS) and discuss the results with the priest, deacon or certified coach. Contact your parish for details on these programs.
4. Start your Mandatory Pre-Marital Preparation
Participate in six sessions for engaged couples: these sessions are held at your parish and focus on developing skills for building a healthy relationship, thus addressing human formation. (Contact our office if your parish does not offer them)
Attend the Diocesan Retreat: This will be held with other engaged couples from the Diocese, where the meaning of the Sacrament and the implications of the wedding vows will be explained. Register online.
Take the introductory session or a course on Natural Family Planning:Once this process is completed, the diocese will provide you with a certificate certifying completion of the premarital requirements, which you must present to your priest.
