Diocese of Oakland to release names of credibly accused clergy

OAKLAND -- "It's the right thing to do," Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, head of the Diocese of Oakland, said in a letter released Sunday evening, Oct. 7, in which he announced the names of all clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors will be released soon.

"We have nothing to hide," the bishop wrote, explaining that due to the complexity of the project, it is anticipated the list will be published within 45 days.

The letter was first published in the Diocese's newspaper, the Catholic Voice. The digital version of the paper was released Sunday evening. It is also being provided to parishes and schools for distribution to parishioners.

The entire letter, in English and Spanish, can be found on the diocesan website.
