Knights of Columbus bring more than 40,000 Pounds of Food to the Needy

They may not have been in shiny armor, but the Knights of Columbus Council #4060 from St. Isidore Parish in Danville and their pastor, Father Matthew Murray, made Christmas a little brighter and merrier for 500 families this year, by delivering more than 40,000 pounds of food.

“This is an extraordinary act of charity during this holiday season,” said Stephen Krank of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Contra Costa County, which received and distributed the food. ”Their generous efforts brought joy, nourishment, and the love of Christ to hundreds of families in need across Contra Costa County.”

Through this initiative, over 500 holiday meal packages were assembled and distributed to non-profits and neighbors in need. Each package was filled with fresh vegetables, fruits, and all the fixings for a festive feast, including a generous 20-pound turkey to complete the meal. “This incredible generosity not only addressed hunger but also embodied the true spirit of the holidays: compassion, generosity, and unity,” Krank explained

St. Vincent de Paul of Contra Costa County serves some of the most vulnerable areas in Contra Costa County. For the families who received them, these meals were more than sustenance; they were a reminder that they are seen, valued, and supported by their church and community.

“Providing this level of support takes incredible teamwork and dedication,” shared a representative from St. Vincent de Paul. “We are deeply grateful to the Knights of Columbus, Council #4060, St. Isidore, and everyone involved for making this possible.”

This partnership between St. Vincent de Paul, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Isidore Catholic Church showcases the transformative power of faith-driven collaboration. Together, they demonstrated that when communities unite in service, they can create meaningful change and reflect Christ’s love in action.
