Excitement in playing girls’ CYO Volleyball was the common thread for the awardees this year, as the CYO Scholarship Committee awarded three annual scholarships from a group of fifty applications received from eighth graders in all CYO sports.
The scholarships were awarded to
Alexandria Arcibal from St. Felicitas CYO, San Leandro;
Sarai Espinoza from St. Elizabeth CYO, Oakland; and
Emmy Abar from Holy Spirit CYO, Fremont.

The CYO Scholarship Committee is now inviting applications for the 2024 Bill Ford CYO Scholarships. Three $1000. scholarships will be awarded to 8th grade CYO players who participated during the 2023-2024 school-year seasons. The scholarships are annually funded by a foundation. CYO teams are invited to organize for the coming 2024 CYO Boy's Sand Volleyball Season. This exciting, outdoor sport for boys in 5th - 8th grades, will begin with play in late March through May. Games are low-key at Quarry Lakes Park, Fremont on Sunday afternoons and feature a "picnic" atmosphere with players and families. Click above for more information!
Over 750 excited runners ran at Crown Beach Regional Park, Alameda, to begin the 2023 CYO Cross Country Season. The races marked the beginning of a five week season. For more details, click the link above.
Sister Denise Bourdet PBVM is celebrating her 70th anniversary of profession with the Sisters of the Presentation. Before her retirement, Sister was well-known and instrumental in CYO in the Oakland Diocese for over 50 years, and as a teacher at St .Joseph the Worker School, Berkeley. Sixteen Oakland Diocese CYO Volleyball teams in the 7th and 8th grades played in the annual "Jim Negri Volleyball Tournament" in January at Moreau Catholic High School, Hayward Click above for more information and results of the Negri Tournament.
The CYO basketball and volleyball seasons will begin soon and coaches are preparing to coach through CYO Certification. All CYO Coaches must be certified to coach young people through CYO Coaches Certification. New coaches attend one of five Certification Workshops, hosted by the Oakland Diocese CYO. The five week CYO Cross Country season concluded with the Oakland Diocese Championship Meet featuring over 800 runners from 32 parishes and Catholic schools participating.
