Oakland students score at Academic Jr. High Decathlon March 7  March 12, 2026

On March 7, 29 teams from the Diocese of Oakland participated in the third annual Academic Jr. High Decathlon at Moreau Catholic High School. Students and schools in the Oakland Diocese brought home dozens of awards including St. Agnes Gold Team repeating as overall winners. 

This national event draws more than 3,500 Catholic school students, representing 33 dioceses across 17 states.  

Students competed as a team in the Logic and Super Quiz events and as individuals in the eight subject matter tests of  Current Events, Religion, English, Literature, Math, Fine Arts, Science and Social Studies.  The overall winner and the winner in each individual subject matter test will compete in a virtual national competition on March 20. 

St. Agnes Gold Team wins the Overall Academic Decathlon

Winners on March 7 from schools in the Oakland Diocese included:  

  • Logic:  St. Patrick – Green  
  • Current Events: Stella Loren Louie, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception 
  • English:  Emma Lee, St. John San Lorenzo 
  • Fine Arts:  Tessa Matel, St. Agnes – Gold 
  • Literature:  Frances Biehs, St. Joseph Alameda 
  • Math: Oscar Fernandez, St. Patrick – Green 
  • Religion: Autumn Azucena – St. Agnes – Gold 
  • Science: Oscar Aguilar, St. Bede – Green 
  • Social Studies: Torin Wiersma St. Raymond 
  • Super Quiz: St. Philip Neri 
  • Overall:  St. Agnes- Gold
