St. Elizabeth High School welcomed alumni, families, faculty, and friends back to campus on Feb. 7, 2026, for a homecoming gathering that celebrated more than a century of faith-filled education in the Fruitvale neighborhood. The evening was marked by gratitude, reflection, and renewal—especially in honoring the enduring legacy of the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, whose presence and leadership have shaped St. Elizabeth across generations.

Stephen Murphy, president of Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School, reflected on his personal connection to St. Elizabeth and the school’s journey from its original mission to its reopening as a Cristo Rey school. While leadership models and partnerships have evolved, Murphy emphasized that the Dominican sisters remain the school’s enduring foundation—forming students through a steadfast commitment to faith, academic excellence, justice, and compassion. That charism, he noted, continues to define the culture and mission of St. Elizabeth today.

A highlight of the evening was the launch of the Sister Rose Marie Hennessy Saint Elizabeth Scholarship, established in loving tribute to Dominican Sister Rose Marie Hennessy. Her leadership and lifelong dedication to students profoundly shaped the St. Elizabeth community. Known for her unwavering belief in the dignity of every young person, Sister Rose Marie championed an education rooted in compassion, academic rigor, and service to others. The new scholarship will support future students who embody these values, ensuring continued access to a St. Elizabeth education for generations to come.

In addition to the special recognition of Sister Rose Marie, other Dominican sisters present were honored for their service to St. Elizabeth—as graduates, educators, convent residents, and steadfast supporters—underscoring the depth and continuity of their influence within the school community.
As alumni reconnected and families gathered, the homecoming affirmed what has long defined St. Elizabeth: a community grounded in Dominican values, renewed in mission, and committed to forming students of faith, compassion, and purpose.
